The carpet in my bedrooms is matted flat down the middle. Is cleaning still worth it, or am I better off replacing it?

Usually worth cleaning first, and it costs a lot less to find out. In Maywood's older bungalows we mostly see cut pile that has been down a long time with heavy daily traffic on it, so there are two different problems: soil and crushed fiber. Cleaning removes the soil, and a fair amount of pile will stand back up once the grit holding it down is gone. What cleaning cannot fix is fiber worn off at the tips, usually in the lane from the doorway to the bed or where the hallway meets the bedrooms. If we look and see backing showing through, we will tell you straight that replacement is the better spend rather than sell you a cleaning that will look the same afterward.

Everything in the house picks up a fine gray dust. Does that come out of carpet?

Yes, most of it does. Being close to the 710 corridor and the industrial belt along the river means fine gray particulate settles constantly, and carpet holds it better than any other surface in the house. That soil is dry and abrasive, so the first step is thorough dry vacuuming before any water touches it, otherwise you turn dust into mud in the base of the pile. Hot water extraction pulls the rest. Be realistic about the reload, though. It will start settling again, and in this part of town regular cleaning is more about keeping the grit from cutting the fibers than about how the carpet looks the week after.

How long until we can use the rooms again? We have a lot of people in a small house.

Dry inland summers here work in your favor, and bedrooms usually come back to use the same day. We control how much moisture goes in, extract heavily on the return passes, and set air movement in the room. Houses on a raised wood floor tend to dry a little faster than slab, and a closed-up bedroom with one window dries slower than an open one, so we plan around that. If your household means the room has to be back in service by evening, say so when we arrive and we will work the schedule and the drying around it.

How quickly can you get out here, and do you ever do same-day?

Maywood is a short drive for our crews and the jobs are typically bedrooms and a hallway rather than whole floors of carpet, so we can often get you in same-day or next-day, especially earlier in the week. Same-day depends on what is already booked that morning, so call and ask rather than assume. Tell us up front if you are in a converted unit or a rear house on a narrow lot, and where a van can park, because access is the thing most likely to slow a job down here and we would rather sort it out on the phone.
